What you can build. What's coming.

IES v0.4 was published March 2026. v1.0 is targeted July 2026. This page maps each building block to what you can ship today and what the next milestone delivers. Spec citations are in the footnotes — click "Spec reference" to expand.

Building-block roadmap

Identity — unique IDs for every grid asset

In review

DER visibility on a feeder →

Today

Resolve any state, RLDC zone, IEX hub, or major substation to its canonical URN and metadata via `/v1/ies/identity/resolve`.

Coming

Full asset-graph hierarchy: distribution feeders, meters, connections, consumer URNs. DISCOM-federated resolution.

Spec reference

Citation: IES v0.4 §pp.15–16 Energy Resource Addresses

Endpoint: /v1/ies/identity/resolve

Named deviation: URN scheme prototypes states, RLDC zones, IEX hubs, major substations — not yet the full asset-graph hierarchy.

Registries — open catalogue of DERs and premises

In review

DER visibility on a feeder →

Today

Seed registry at `/v1/ies/registry/der` — list, filter, and export DER installations on a feeder as JSON-LD.

Coming

Federation with peer registries (DISCOM MDMS, MNRE portal). Write API for DISCOM-signed registry updates.

Spec reference

Citation: IES v0.4 §p.17 Registries & Directories

Endpoint: /v1/ies/registry/der

Named deviation: JSON-LD signed registry; conforms structurally. Federation with peer registries pending v0.5 stabilisation.

Common Data Model — one schema across all endpoints

Live

Tariff settlement in 30 lines →

Today

All `/v1/ies/*` endpoints return IES v0.4 CDM-conformant payloads. `ies-ingest` ships the contract types as Apache-2.0 Python.

Coming

OpenAPI 3.1 spec with CDM schema inline — machine-validated at build time.

Spec reference

Citation: IES v0.4 §pp.20–22 Common Data Model

Endpoint: all /v1/ies/* endpoints

Policy as Code — CERC/SERC orders as JSON

In progress

Tariff settlement in 30 lines →

Today

3 signed CERC orders encoded as machine-executable Policy Pack JSON. Deterministic evaluator — compute a retail bill offline.

Coming

Coverage of all 28 state SERC orders. VERC/MERC/DERC packs. Automated update on new order.

Spec reference

Citation: IES v0.4 §p.25, Annexure 6 §pp.57–58 Policy as Code

Endpoint: /v1/ies-preview/policy/{slug}

Named deviation: Three CERC orders encoded as signed JSON policy packs. Deterministic evaluator. Apache 2.0.

Programme Observability — live system health

Live

Today

Anonymous-aggregate API health, call volumes, uptime, and DISCOM coverage at `/ies/observability`. Powers the KPI strip on `/ies`.

Coming

Per-endpoint latency percentiles. DISCOM-level data freshness SLAs. Public status page.

Spec reference

Citation: IES v0.4 §pp.26–28 Programme Observability

Endpoint: /v1/ies-preview/observability/health

Verifiable Credentials — W3C VC 2.0 for energy assets

In progress

Consumer Energy Passport →

Today

Issue and verify Consumer Energy Passports — W3C VC 2.0 binding a connection URN to meter, DER capacity, and tariff category.

Coming

DISCOM-signed generation certificates. Renewable purchase obligation tracking. Revocation registry.

Spec reference

Citation: IES v0.4 §pp.18–19 Energy Credentials (W3C VC 2.0)

Endpoint: /v1/ies-preview/vc/verify

Named deviation: Verifier-only on day one. We do not issue regulatory credentials; that authority belongs to the issuing entity.

Corrections and engagement

CERC, SERC, REC Limited, FSR Global, and IES Taskforce staff with corrections to an encoding can open an issue on the relevant repository or write to ies@energymap.in. We treat regulatory feedback as authoritative and version-chain the encoding. See also /ies/observability for live system signal.
